We will edit the story to protect identities as well as country of origin. We will also edit for suitable length. We are not out to slam anyone, we only are interested in highlighting some of the pitfalls and possibilities associated with offshore sourcing strategies.

Current Story:
During our last stay in this country we were visiting with a supplier and they asked if we wanted a drink of water. We said, that would be great and they went off to get our drinks. When they returned our water was served in large coffee mugs. Curious as to why we received mugs instead of one of the many plastic or paper cups we had seen stacked up in the storage room; we asked "why mugs"? Our supplier looked around and became quiet; finally one of the office workers pulled us aside and explained that one of this country's larger manufacturers of disposable cups had been caught using recycled medical waste in the manufacturing process. They said no one was using disposable cups but were not sure how to handle this situation with us. We repeatedly assured them that we were ok with the mugs.
Thankfully our supplier was concerned enough to override the potential embarrassment created in an effort to protect us. We explained that, we 100% agreed with their decision and told them to feel free to bring up any and all concerns without fear of embarrassment or recrimination.
